About This Cause

Catholic Charities has been providing social services in the region for over 70 years. The agency has been a leader in providing services for older adults, for example, contracts have been renewed for homemaker, transportation and the Ombudsman Program for over 40 of those years. Another important division is the legal services for immigrants since 1997, adding ESl/Civics education since 2009. The Health Care Access/Nutrition Assistance Programs provide community benefits assistance to thousands of individuals per year. A Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program has successfully housed homeless Veterans since 2013. Relatively new programs which have been added to respond to local gaps in service are the drop-in Center for homeless women (2014), and the Family Wellness Prevention and Early Intervention Program which includes brief intervention counseling and parent education classes to the Spanish speaking. Catholic Charities has been effective in reaching out to at risk populations and hard to reach populations due to high trust from the large Latino population and the association with Catholic Parishes. However, services are provided to all people in need regardless of religion, sex, age or ethnicity. Providing direct services that address basic needs such as access to health care, and food and nutrition, as well as reliable, affordable legal immigration services has enhanced the organization’s relationships among immigrants and the low-income Hispanic population. The agency is well known in the region for providing systems navigation assistance and linkages to medical care and other services for seniors, children, families and homeless veterans. Catholic Charities annually serves over 19, 000 individuals .
