About This Cause

Family and Child Empowerment Services - San Francisco (FACES SF), a community-based non-profit organization, represents the legacy of two of San Francisco’s longstanding non-profit organizations: Florence Crittenton Services and Whitney young Child Development Center. FACES SF provides critical assistance to low income families citywide, with a focus in Haight Ashbury, Western Addition, Visitacion Valley, and Bayview Hunters Point neighborhoods in the following areas: early childhood development, workforce training, school age enrichment programs, and family support services. FACES SF was founded on July 1, 2011, and from the beginning championed a holistic approach to serving San Francisco communities! In the first year the Masonic site preschool program earned the coveted ‘Preschool For All’ standing with the City of San Francisco. In 2012, FACES SF augmented its programs: the Bayview child development center attained ‘Preschool For All’ standing, increased enrollment by 15%, and FACES SF also partnered with the City of San Francisco to direct a Neighborhood Access Point. In 2013, FACES SF improved the after school enrichment program by increasing educational field trips and refining the curriculum, and increased the size of workforce program, moving offices to the Visitacion Valley Community Resource Center. In 2014 and 2015, FACES SF developed their collaborations, working with playground builder KaBOOM!, gaming company Zynga, the City of San Francisco and members of the Bayview community to build a new playground and Outdoor Learning Center at the Bayview site. Today, FACES SF continues to grow and develop, ensuring to nurture, teach, and empower San Francisco's underserved children and families to transform their lives. FACES SF provides subsidized early child education at three sites across San Francisco for infant/toddlers, preschool, and after school enrichment for K-6th grade. Services are delivered in English, Spanish, and Chinese. Children are given age-appropriate learning opportunities that focus on creative expression, social and emotional development, and wellness and physical development. In addition, FACES SF also manages over 50 Family Child Care Network of licensed home child care providers in San Francisco, placing children from low-income families in culturally suitable arrangements. FACES SF's Family Support Program is a family centric program with the objective to strengthen San Francisco families and communities, delivering activities and services that promote wellness, development, and stability. Our holistic approach at FACES SF gives us the unique opportunity to positively impact the early lives of our students and support our families. Our services are offered at all of our child development locations, and our experienced staff ensure outstanding program quality and outcomes. Our team consists of mental health professionals, an outreach and advocacy coordinator, and child development specialists, designed to empower and support our youth and families. Since 2004 our Workforce Program has been assisting San Franciscans and Bay Area residents in acquiring the skills they need to enter the workforce or advance their careers. Our program is located in Visitacion Valley and we strive to bridge the gap between the job seeker and local companies looking for qualified candidates. We provide resume assistance, job search workshops, computer access, job leads, and scheduled hiring events and job fairs. FACES SF has language capacity in English, Spanish, and Mandarin and Cantonese.
