About This Cause
Founded in 1969, Morgan Autism Center is the San Francisco Bay Area’s leading provider of individualized educational services for individuals who are severely impact by autism, delivering high-quality, specialized programming to children and adults. Headquartered in San Jose, it serves as a school, adult day program, and a resource for families and professional service providers throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. Chosen by school districts in Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda counties, Morgan Autism Center promotes an educational philosophy (the Morgan Autism Center Model) that mines the best techniques from multiple developmental and educational models and applies them to the individual needs of each student. The result is a nurturing, joyful environment that focuses on constant program optimization to deliver greater opportunities for success. Morgan Autism Center currently serves 55 students aged 5-22 and 45 adult clients aged 22 and up. Staffed at a 1:1 staff to student ratio, students receive daily speech and occupational therapy, physical fitness, academic instruction, and social and independent living skills training. The Adult Program, which has a 3:1 client to staff ratio, focuses primarily on independent living skills and vocational training, including real-world experience with local businesses to improve work skills. Both programs incorporate enrichment activities such as art and music therapy and regular community outings. In addition to direct client services, Morgan Autism Center offers services for the larger community such as law enforcement and first responders training, program training and implementation for other school agencies, and reverse mainstreaming programs.
