Mission Statement
Headquartered in Dublin, California with a branch in Lexington, Massachusetts, Luso- American Education Foundation (LAEF) is a 501c3 non profit organization incorporated in 1963 to assist qualified students interested in achieving higher education.
About This Cause
LAEF awards scholarships/ grants to high school seniors and college students of Portuguese descent or those studying Portuguese and/or members of Luso- American Fraternal Federation, Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel, and Portuguese Continental Union. Since its inception, LAEF has awarded more than $1,600,000 in scholarships. LAEF awards financial aid to eligible students participating in Portuguese language and culture courses in the United States and in Portugal. LAEF sponsors and hosts an annual conference focusing on the Portuguese language, literature, and culture. LAEF provides support to other education and cultural programs that foster the teaching and promotion of the Portuguese language and culture (i.e. music, folklore dancing,history, art, etc.) LAEF supports community events and projects about the Portuguese and Portuguese- Americans. LAEF honors individuals for their continuous dedication to the Portuguese- American community. LAEF raises funds with a variety of activities and events to support its scholarships, and educational and cultural programs. LAEF organizes and sponsors an annual week long camp on a college campus for students to learn about college life and the Portuguese culture. LAEF sponsors and celebrates "Dia de Portugal, de Camoes e das Comunidades Portuguesas" in conjunction with the Foundation's anniversary and honors their scholarship recipients.
