Mission Statement
YWCA Sonoma County's mission is to end domestic violence through awareness, education and empowerment.
About This Cause
YWCA Sonoma County’s role is to provide resources and support to victims and their families so they can heal, become self-sufficient, and create productive, healthy lives. Here’s how we do it: YWCA Sonoma County Safe House is the ONLY confidential shelter in all of Sonoma County which offers refuge for women and children fleeing domestic violence. Currently our 27-bed facility is at maximum capacity housing women with children ages newborn to 17 years. YWCA Sonoma County Adobe After Care Program gives graduates of the Safe House the opportunity to continue receiving supportive services for up to two years. Of the women who complete the eight week program associated with the secure refuge of our Safe House only 10% return to their former lives – that’s a 90% success rate! YWCA Sonoma County “A Special Place” Therapeutic Preschool is the ONLY one of its kind in Sonoma County (and one of only a handful in the State of California) providing counseling to children ages 3 to 5 who have witnessed or are living with violence in their homes. YWCA Sonoma County 24 hour Crisis Hotline (546-1234) is the ONLY domestic violence hotline in Sonoma County and it fields over 3,000 calls annually resulting in 5,000+ referrals for services and provides safety planning and alternatives to families in need. YWCA Sonoma County Therapy Services provides play therapy to children who have regressed in their speech and socialization skills due to traumatic stress and prepares them socially and emotionally for Kindergarten. We teach parents positive parenting approaches as well as offer individual psychotherapy and psychoeducational support groups.
