Mission Statement
We provide a range of programs and services that support the health, well-being, and independence of older adults in our community.
About This Cause
Established in 1976, we provide healthy meals, firewood for warmth, and care coordination to support older adults supporting their desire to age gracefully at home for over 48 years. Currently, we provide approximately 80,000 meals per year. Our community has not had a Senior Center for over 18 years. In August of 2024, we opened a new multigenerational community senior center. The new center offers numerous activities supporting physical, mental, and emotional well-being, adult learning opportunities that include technology literacy, and opportunities to socialize and meet new friends. The center also provides a central "hub" where older adults and their families can access the resources and referrals needed to meet the challenges of aging. We also provide pet food support to our homebound seniors so that their cherished companion thrives. We offer this evidence-based program as it has been shown to improve mental-emotional health, reduce hospital admissions, and give our seniors a sense of purpose. Their pet may be the only support system our clients have besides the volunteers who deliver their meals and provide socialization. Our Senior Firewood Program provides supplemental dry wood to low-income seniors who either heat exclusively with wood and/or need additional help in addition to managing electrical services costs. Currently, we serve 261 seniors and provide 231 cords through this volunteer lead program. Emergency Services support includes distributing shelf-stable meals twice per year to ensure our homebound clients have access to nutrition during snowstorms and power outages. We distribute approximately 25,000 emergency meals per year. Our Case Managers make sure all clients have an emergency evacuation plan and a "go-bag" and we provide all clients and the 182 volunteers that support our programs with emergency/disaster education.
