About This Cause

Established 1979, Marin City Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and is one of the major providers of transformational and rehabilitative services through the California Department of Rehabilitation to include individual and entrepreneurial support services. CDC’s priority regions of client’s served are primarily Marin City, and include the Canal, West Marin, Novato, and LGBTQ+ communities, in Marin County. All CDC Programs and Services are interconnected and collaborative to ensure clients receive the highest level of wrap-around services and referrals for clients to foster self-sufficiency, economic vitality, and achieve individuals’ goals and dreams. Key Programs and Services Empowerment Clubhouse Program addresses both the health and social needs of Members through an integrated model that connects physical clubhouse-where Members are engaged in an innovative therapeutic community rooted Social Practice (Work-Ordered-Day/WOD) and take steps in reclaiming their agency and dignity. The Empowerment Clubhouse is a no cost membership-based social/vocational community where people living with persistent mental illness come to rebuild their lives; WOD’s on weekdays to build upon strengths and abilities and a place to socialize in the evenings and weekends.  Workforce and Career Development Program provides job readiness, life skills, and placement assistance and includes wrap around services and referrals to State of CA DOR and other programs.  Construction Trades Laborer’s Apprenticeship Program provides essential and required education and hands-on training for individuals 18 years and older with qualifications to become employed at the Laborer’s Union. Program is in partnership with the Northern California Laborer’s Training Center (norcaltc.org) and LiUNA.org.  PowerUP Youth Program (PUYP)-Effective July 2024, the PUYP replaced the former summer youth program. Youth receive yearlong support and resources for part-time job training and placement, career exploration, life skills, community activities, college preparation and support, professional development, public speaking, special projects American Climate Corps Application Assistance, and eco-friendly activities and projects, i.e., gardening and climate change for the future.   State of California Department of Rehabilitation (DOR) Employment Services-Working as an approved vendor for the state of California Department of Rehabilitation, CDC has been providing vocational services to eligible residents of Marin County since 2011. Services include workplace assessment & evaluation, job searching & preparation, training, coaching, and placement are helping disabled and impaired members of our community find meaningful, lasting employment and be seen as the valuable individual contributors that they are to our society.  Microenterprise Small Business Program promotes lifelong economic development, financial independence, accessibility for marginalized groups, new immigrants, entrepreneurial skills development, community building, and valuable resources, referrals, and hands on training. Programs and services are collaborative, customized, and designed based on clients Individual Service Plan (ISP). CDC is accredited by CARF.org is an independent, nonprofit organization focused on advancing the quality of services you use to meet your needs for the best possible outcomes.
