Mission Statement

HEALING LIVES… TRANSFORMING COMMUNITIES At Medical Ambassadors International we build relationships with the world’s most vulnerable people and together we work to heal communities both physically and spiritually. MISSION Medical Ambassadors International is equipping communities through Christ-centered health and development. VISION Medical Ambassadors International envisions a world of thriving communities where people experience reconciliation of broken relationships, restoration of hope and health, and dignity through following Jesus. (we work with all people of every religion without discriminating)

About This Cause

For over 44 years, Medical Ambassadors International has been working to heal communities and transform lives. Jesus’ ministry on earth revealed that he cares for the WHOLE person. He was moved by people’s spiritual AND physical pain. At Medical Ambassadors International, we strive to follow the example Jesus set for holistic healing. We use a development process called Community Health Evangelism (CHE) that addresses the needs of the whole person - physical, spiritual, emotional, and social. By using CHE, Medical Ambassadors is equipping individuals to be independent workers and evangelists in their own communities. The CHE methodology is built on specific core values. Does It Work? You Decide. * Malnutrition & death in young children has frequently been cut in half. * In some locations, income have more than doubled. * Hundreds of thousand of people are growing in their knowledge of Jesus. * Thousands of churches have been planted or grown dramatically as they've learned to serve their neighbors in effective ways. COMMUNITY HEALTH EVANGELISM CORE VALUES Core values shape our application of Community Health Evangelism (CHE), despite variations that adapt the program to local needs, as identified by the community. Prioritizing the whole person: Some ministries focus solely on the spiritual and ignore physical needs; others address only the physical. We address both. Prayer: Because true transformation is the work of God we have to seek his help. Commitment to the vulnerable and marginalized: Jesus offers salvation to everyone. However, he particularly calls us to serve those whom other might ignore. Long Term Solutions: We focus on development rather than relief ('A hand up, rather than a hand out'). We believe prevention of diseases (and other problems) is less costly and more sustainable than trying to cure them post facto. Local ownership: We do not want to promote a cycle of dependency on outside aid. Rather, we teach communities to identify and solve their own problems. Participatory Learning: Our teaching methods engage adults in discussion, reflection and action, building on what they know. It also allows less educated people to shine as trainers. Use of locally available resources: When people use resources they already have, they grow their independence and can teach others to do likewise. Multiplication: The brilliance of CHE is that it doesn’t need professional development workers to thrive. Because it relies so heavily on local leadership and volunteers, once one community catches the vision, it spreads like wildfire. Christian Servant Leadership: Jesus modeled leadership based on serving others, not being served by them. Thus, we raise leaders who, like Jesus, lead through sacrificially serving. TRAININGS At Medical Ambassadors International we believe that development work should be community-owned. We promote this core principle by training workers in a very specific development philosophy known as Community Health Evangelism (CHE) which focuses on transforming lives both physically and spiritually. We offer various types of training: * Vision Seminars – for those interested in learning more about CHE before jumping in! (2 days) * TOT-S – covers CHE foundations and topics relevant to those who go on short term mission trips, but who do not start or manage CHE programs overseas. For North American audiences. (5 days consecutively or over two weekends) * TOT-1 – covers CHE foundational principles and how to begin to organize CHE programs. (5 days) * TOT-2 – focuses on developing teaching materials, methods, and curriculum. (5 days) * TOT-3 – emphasis on evaluation, project expansion, multiplication, and project management. (5 days) Internships – an immersive experience that provides a combination of classroom learning and hands-on experience with CHE programs. For those who have completed at least a TOT-1 (some parts of the world require TOT-2 and -3 as well). (4-5 weeks)
