Mission Statement

The Tule Lake Committee is primarily and education oriented non-profit organization. The focus of the Tule Lake Committee's education effort is to inform the American public about the incarceration experience of the people of Japanese ancestry during World War II. This action by the U.S. Government was the most egregious violation of Constitutional rights in our country's history. Tule Lake Segregation Center was the fulcrum of the injustices inflicted on ethnic Japanese during this period.

About This Cause

The Tule Lake Committee (TLC) is an all-volunteer 501(c)3 organization that began organizing pilgrimages in the early 1970s to honor the memory of the immigrants of Japanese ancestry and their descendants incarcerated during World War II at the Tule Lake Segregation Center. Tule Lake is located in Northern California a few miles from the Oregon border. Every two years, volunteers organize a pilgrimage that draws several hundred persons from the Japanese American diaspora to the Tule Lake site, for four-days of reflection on the wartime incarceration and its meaning for the present and future.
