Mission Statement
Native Animal Rescue (NAR) is a local nonprofit of Santa Cruz County in California dedicated to caring for the sick, injured and orphaned wild animals. Our goal is to release the animals back to the wild when they have recovered. Native Animal Rescue (NAR) receives over 2,400 animals a year; about 1,600 birds and 800 mammals, as well as reptiles and amphibians. We also advise people on how to share our world peacefully with wild animals. How to keep people, property and pets safe, as well as keeping wild animals safe.
About This Cause
Native Animal Rescue (NAR) provides a place for people to bring distressed wildlife that they find. NAR receives animals from the local police, animal services, park personnel, lifeguards and the general public. We also have volunteers that rescue animals when people call in for assistance. Our trained staff and volunteers assess the animal when brought in, provide immediate treatment when necessary and implement a care program for the animal. We work closely with veterinarians when an animal needs that level of care. The animals are cared for until they are ready to survive in the wild again, and are then released. We receive grants from foundations, donations from the general public, funds from a reusable shopping bag program, and a small amount of funding from our local governments. We maintain a web site: nativeanimalrescue.org with lots of information on protecting wildlife and what to do if you find a distressed animal(s). We produce newsletters and other literature. We also table at local events and give presentations to groups.
