Mission Statement

The Alzheimer's Aid Society was founded by John and Bea Gorman. Bea's mother had Alzheimer's and subsequently 4 of her siblings came down with early onset Alzheimer's. The University of Colorado heard about their family and wanted to do a study on them. The word got out and people wanted to know if she could help them. So John and Bea would do support groups in peoples homes in the late 1970's. Then in 1981 they founded the Alzheimer's Aid Society. They wanted to be advocated for the caregivers and make people more aware of the disease. Today, we have over 25 support groups throughout Northern California, we publish a bi-monthly newsletter that goes out to more than 6000 people across the U.S. With the help of Doctors and professionals in the field we have written "The Blue Book" A Practical Guide for Alzheimer's Caregivers. This would be included in the information packet that we send out to caregivers and their families when they call. You will also find it in Doctor's offices, and hospitals in our area.
