Mission Statement
Capability Health is dedicated to providing transformational and life-enhancing services to all individuals facing a physical, mental, intellectual, or social limitation. Capability Health and Human Services (CHHS) was founded in 1976 as an independent nonprofit with the objective of assisting children and adults with disabilities and their families. Since its inception, the organization has operated under several different names, including Endeavor, Easter Seals of Southern Nevada, and Easter Seals Nevada. Easter Seals is a national organization and CHHS was formally paying for rights to use their name. In December 2019, Leadership decided since CHHS was a Nevada formed organization they disaffiliated with Easter Seals and renamed the organization to Capability Health and Human Services to better describe our mission and services to the community. CHHS’s goals are: To enhance and enrich the lives and capabilities of our clients by providing urgently needed developmental and rehabilitative services, opportunities for social and community engagement and employment, and the guidance to help all people lead independent lives with greater societal inclusion and acceptance.
About This Cause
CHHS recognizes that all individuals will encounter a form of physical, mental, intellectual, or social limitation during their lifetime. Through specialized programming, the organization currently serves over 830 children and adults. Newborn children through senior citizens, can be aided by CHHS. Clients served by CHHS are faced with a multitude of challenges induced by their disabilities. In order to serve the specific needs of every unique individual, CHHS offers the following person-centered programs: · Early Intervention (EI): Provided in the home, via telehealth, and at the Las Vegas Pediatric Therapy Clinic children with disabilities (ages 0-3) have access to individualized and group therapies while developing social, learning, and physical skills. This program is offered in Northern and Southern Nevada. · Las Vegas Pediatric Therapy Clinic: Offers convenient community-based occupational therapy, physical therapy, feeding therapy, and speech therapy for children in the Early Intervention Program needing access to playgroup therapies outside of the home and children that have aged out of the Early Intervention Program (age 3). The clinic provides the necessary continuum of care without having to change providers. · Skills Training and Excellence for Personal Success (S.T.E.P.S): CHHS combines educational programming, community engagement, and person-centered plans to help day habilitation individuals achieve their highest level of independence. Individual goals include achieving independence in areas such as, personal grooming, grocery shopping, gardening, exercising, and increased participation in clubs, volunteerism, and other community involvement. · Capability Career Exploration Center (CCEC): The Capability Career Exploration Center provides the opportunity for adults with physical and/or intellectual limitations with varying skill levels gain work experience for future employability. Training is conducted either on site at our facility or in the community. Individuals have the opportunity to earn a paycheck in the program making minimum wage. · Sephora: In partnership with Capability Health and supported by the Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation, CHHS and Sephora has constructed a training-to-employment program for individuals with disabilities. The program consists of a 9-week training course with the goal of being offered a job as a permanent Sephora employee who is held to the same standards as their peers and receives equal pay and benefits. The training course is comprised of both soft skills training (25%) and on-the-job training (75%), specific to positions within Sephora’s Nevada-based distribution center. At the end of 9 weeks, candidates that are meeting productivity metrics and attendance goals will be offered a job as a Sephora employee!
