Mission Statement

To empower and support human care organizations that deliver services to improve the lives of the Navajo Nation and neighboring communities.

About This Cause

Contributions made to Navajo United Way's Community Impact Fund are allocated as grants to partner agencies that address the education, health, housing, and other social service needs throughout the Navajo Nation and surrounding communities. Each year, Navajo United Way funds projects that benefit children, elderly, and other individuals and families who are low-income or in need. Navajo United Way also issues restricted funds towards specific causes, such as combatting domestic/family/intimate partner violence with funds going to shelters to purchase food, clothing, hygiene products, or to assist victims with legal expenses, permanent housing, or job search/placement. Funds are also directed towards educational and youth programs promoting literacy, STEM, or cultural and language learning programs. Navajo United Way also has an option to provide direct services. Each year, Navajo United Way facilitates the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or VITA program with hundreds of individuals and families using the free service to prepare and file their tax returns, participate in tax clinics, and get answers to questions relating to tax regulations. Most recently, Navajo United Way purchased and distributed fire extinguishers to individuals and families throughout the Navajo Nation and presented on fire safety, prevention measures, and how to properly store and use an extinguisher.
