Mission Statement

Math/Science Nucleus is a non-profit (501(c)3), educational and research organization composed of scientists, educators and community members founded in 1982. It manages facilities (Children's Natural History Museum, Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon, Fremont Earthquake Exhibit and California Nursery Historical Park that provide hands on experiences with different sciences as well as online science resource center to assist school districts, teachers, and administrators around the world. We also provide environmental volunteer opportunities for high school students at several sites in southern Alameda County. The major goal is to develop problem solving capacity through science for the world's children. We provide a free online reference science curriculum for elementary grades and customize materials for schools. Not only lesson plans but online animated storybooks and slideshows guide any educator to integrate science content into children's lives. About This Cause

Another major goal is to enhance the skills of teachers and administrators by providing workshops increase their teaching and science content skills . Improving their literacy will effectively teach generations of children. Locally (San Francisco Bay area) we manage the Children's Natural History Museum of Fremont which include the collection of Wes Gordon of Ice Age Mammals from the local area. The museum also has touch displays of other fossils, rocks, minerals, and nature specimens. The Math Science Nucleus also manages Tule Ponds at Tyson Lagoon Wetland Center, a 17 acre site owned by Alameda County Flood Control and Water Conservation District. Students experience an urban wetland by observing at native vegetation and how they attract native animals. Math Science Nucleus manages for the City of Fremont, The Fremont Earthquake Exhibit which shows how the Hayward Fault is ripping our city apart. We also manage a new project called the California Nursery Historic Park, where we are archiving and preserving building that show our agricultural past. We are also working with TriCed and Masonic Home (2 other non profits) on using 2 tons of food waste per week and developing a reforestation project on 200 acres of land. Math/Science Nucleus serves children, school districts. teachers, administrators, colleges, and community members. The Math/Science Nucleus has provided training in science, math, and integrating computer technology to more than 15,000 teachers across the nation. Our website gets an average of 7000 users per day, with up to 2.5 million hits per month. Our guidelines help schools create their own dynamic program. The use of telecommunications has allowed us to reach almost every corner of the world! I. SCIENCE MATE CURRICULUM The Integrating Science, Math, and Technology curriculum and program allows an entire elementary (K-6) school to become involved with science. For 34 weeks a teacher is instructed on how to set up three activities per week. The I. Science MaTe curriculum is an integration of science and math, that requires cooperation of teachers, administrators, and parents at a school site. A junior high (7-8) program provides two hands-on labs per week for a semester of Biological Sciences, Earth Sciences, Physical Sciences, and Human Biology/Health. Real science for teachers provides our children with the most up-to-date science content and math instructional techniques. Materials are currently free on the web as Acrobat PDF files.
