Mission Statement

Ohlone Humane Society is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, volunteer-supported animal welfare organization serving mainly the cities of Fremont, Newark and Union City in the San Francisco Bay Area. We care for animals and the community through humane programs and services. OHS is privately funded and relies on the generous support of our community through donations and volunteering. OHS is not subsidized by local or state funding, nor are we under the umbrella of a parent organization such as the Humane Society of the United States.

About This Cause

OHS provides a wide range of humane programs with the help of dedicated individuals like you. Some examples are the OHS Wildlife Rehabilitation Center. We take in hundreds of sick, orphaned or injured wildlife each year. We do extensive training for the volunteers who care for the wildlife. There is a very active spay/neuter assistance program to decrease the number of companion animals euthanized in shelters and feral cats. Our assisted therapy animals visit retirement facilities, convalescent homes and more. We also partner with the Alameda County Public Library to host the "read-to-a-dog" program for kids. We provide a pet meals-on-wheels assistance to very low-income individuals. We help low-income residents with companion animal medical needs. OHS provides rescue support and other services to the local municipal animal shelter.
