Redwood Symphony is an all-volunteer orchestra dedicated to the performance of ambitious, contemporary repertoire, as well as the great orchestral classics. The innovative programming and emphasis on education are two reasons so many of the most talented musicians from throughout the San Francisco Bay Area volunteer their time to play, and why our audience and local critics are so enthusiastic.

Mission Statement: Redwood Symphony enriches the lives of its musicians and the community by presenting spirited, high-quality performances of ambitious orchestral music in an innovative, educational and entertaining format. Highlights include… --Commitment to music education for all ages. Redwood Symphony is the only Bay Area art organization that is free for all children under 18. --Performances of all of the symphonies of Gustav Mahler, including two versions of the completed Tenth. --Performance of Ives Symphony No. 4, with four simultaneous conductors, three ensembles, and chorus. --West Coast premiere of Danny Elfman’s first symphonic work, Serenada Schizophrana, and Elvis Costello’s first orchestral work, Il Sogno, a full-length ballet to A Midsummer Night’s Dream. --West Coast premiere of Leonard Bernstein’s last orchestral work, the Concerto for Orchestra. --Bay Area premiere of Every Good Boy Deserves Favor, a play with actors and orchestra by Tom Stoppard and André Previn. --Benefit performance of Corigliano’s Symphony No. 1, Of Rage and Remembrance. --Performance at Davies Symphony Hall of the Berlioz Requiem and Stravinsky’s opera, Oedipus Rex. --Featured in Stereophile magazine 1997 Records to Die For for The Rite of Spring and Les Noces. --Six critically acclaimed compact discs on two record labels, available on iTunes and Amazon.com. --Redwood Symphony’s 1999–2000 Farewell to the 20th Century season, comprised entirely of 20th century pieces. --Six performances of uncut operas in concert, including Porgy and Bess, Candide, and Don Giovanni . --Dr. Kujawsky’s popular lectures, concert talks, and concert demonstrations.
