Mission Statement

Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley revitalizes neighborhoods, builds affordable and sustainable housing solutions, and empowers families through successful homeownership. Since 1986, we have partnered with volunteers, the community, and qualified families with limited incomes to strengthen communities in Alameda, Contra Costa, and Santa Clara Counties.

About This Cause

At Habitat, we believe everyone deserves a safe, stable, and affordable place to call home. By building, preserving, and expanding access to housing, we help families create the foundation they need to thrive—gaining the strength, stability, and self-reliance to build brighter futures. Our work is powered by partnerships. Families contribute sweat equity by helping build their homes, volunteers lend their time and skills, and donors provide critical funding. We reinvest mortgage payments and leverage every dollar to maximize our impact. Together, we create long-term, sustainable solutions that empower families to break the cycle of poverty, put down roots, and invest in their futures. WHAT WE DO HOMEOWNERSHIP: Our program partners with first-time homebuyers to make the dream of homeownership a reality right here in the Bay Area. Through a unique model, families work alongside volunteers to help build their homes. Once the homes are built, buyers receive affordable, stable mortgages that offer sustainable homeownership. This process not only provides families with a safe, permanent place to live but also helps them invest in their future and build generational wealth creating a lasting foundation for financial security and success. HOME REPAIRS: We help limited-income homeowners maintain the safety, comfort, and dignity of the homes they cherish by providing critical repairs and accessibility upgrades, like roof repairs, ramp installations, and other essential safety features. These repairs not only protect health and prevent displacement, but also ensure families can age in place, live independently, and remain rooted in their communities with pride and peace of mind. HOUSING COUNSELING: As a HUD-approved agency, we offer one-on-one counseling, financial education, and homebuyer workshops that are open to anyone looking to improve their financial well-being. Whether a family is preparing to buy their first home, working to strengthen their credit, managing their budget, or seeking guidance to stay housed, our services provide the tools and knowledge to build long-term financial stability and achieve housing goals. WHY HOUSING MATTERS: IMPROVED HEALTH: Stable housing reduces stress, minimizes exposure to hazardous living conditions, and promotes overall well-being. BETTER EDUCATIONAL OUTCOMES: Children in stable homes tend to perform better in school, with higher test scores, improved focus, and fewer behavioral challenges. FINANCIAL SECURITY: Families gain the ability to build savings, invest in their future, and create long-term financial stability, laying the groundwork for generational wealth. STRONGER COMMUNITIES: Affordable housing fosters a sense of community, encouraging residents to engage with one another, volunteer, and support local initiatives, making neighborhoods more connected and resilient. Your support builds more than homes-it builds futures. Every gift of time, talent, and treasure helps local families access the stability and opportunity they deserve. Together, we build homes, communities, and hope. We welcome all forms of generosity-including donations through IRA or Donor Advised Funds (DAFs), cryptocurrency, and stock. These gifts can make an even bigger impact by maximizing your tax benefits while helping us build more affordable homes. CURRENT PROJECTS – HELP US BUILD!
