Mission Statement
The Beaverton Education Foundation supports strong public schools in our community by developing and maintaining strategic partnerships to fund programs that inspire and increase student achievement.
About This Cause
Beaverton Education Foundation (BEF) strives to fund projects and programs at all Beaverton, Oregon schools and to impact every student’s education through our Cornerstone Programs. BEF was founded in 1988 to support strong public schools in Beaverton. We aim to support our educators as they identify high-quality educational opportunities in our schools that are not possible within normal school funding. We help pilot and refine innovative ideas and grow them into highly-successful programs reaching more classrooms, grades, and schools. BEF targets support towards meeting the needs of student populations who have historically faced barriers to equitable educational opportunities. GOALS Our goals are to incubate promising ideas, create hands-on learning opportunities, and fill in funding gaps, all while connecting the community to the classroom. BEF helps educators in Beaverton, OR design and deliver innovative classroom-based projects, before/after school activities, and summer opportunities that support student educational achievement. We focus support to address barriers to equitable education with initiatives that meet the needs of low-income or at-risk student populations. CORNERSTONE PROGRAMS 1. Beaverton’s Choice Grants – This initiative connects community to classroom by supporting teachers and school administrators with classroom-based projects that encourage student educational achievement. Opportunities are publicized on our crowdfunding website, so community members can invest in projects and programs of their choice. See https://www.beavertonedfoundation.org/beavertons-choice/ 2. Building STEAM 4 All Initiative - Supports educational innovations in our classrooms and in afterschool and summer enrichment related to Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). 3. Kids Count Program – Targets the needs of student populations who experience barriers to equitable education with afterschool and summer activities. Initiatives include summer programs like Camp Achieve, that aims to reduce summer learning loss among low-income students, afterschool academic support for at-risk middle and high school students, and career exploration activities for middle school students. 4. Back to School Campaigns – this initiative focuses on getting all students in Beaverton ready to go back to school, through in-person instruction or virtual online learning. BEF played a significant role in 2020-21 closing educational access gaps so all students had the chance to learn. ACCOMPLISHMENTS We have a strong track record of raising money, volunteer participation, and in-kind support for innovative academic and advancement activities that our educators consider important for a high-quality education, but are not possible withing normal school funding. BEF’s role is to support educators’ innovative ideas and to help them grow. With the support of the philanthropic and corporate community, individual donors, and volunteers we work to provide the necessary funding and strategic support to make these resources available to our students. Many of the programs and projects are publicized via our "Beaverton's Choice" donor platform where the community is able to support projects of interest directly. IMPACT In the 2018-19 school year, BEF supported 124 programs and projects that impacted 27,480 students in the Beaverton School District. Since our founding in 1988, we have invested over $4.4 million to support schools in Beaverton. Thank you for helping to make this possible! ORGANIZATIONAL TRANSPARENCY BEF receives no public funds, relying on contributions from school families, community members, alumni, and local businesses and their employees. Funds donated to BEF pay for programs not mandated or funded by the State, but ones our parents and dedicated educators consider necessary for a quality education. State funding for education in Oregon is inadequate for many basic programs, insufficient to fund enrichment programs, and unavailable to underwrite innovative programs. In 2020, BEF was awarded the Platinum Seal of Transparency by Guidestar.org, the highest level presented to nonprofit organizations in recognition of our organization excellence.
