Mission Statement

To build communities with underserved individuals and families, where they are safely and supportively housed, free from homelessness and domestic violence.

About This Cause

At Building Futures, we believe that everyone deserves a safe place to call home. At service sites in San Leandro, Oakland, and Alameda, we provide Alameda County individuals and families with street outreach, shelter, domestic violence services including a safe house, and housing services. As a housing first agency, our programs and services prioritize connecting those we serve with safe and sustainable housing. About half of those Building Futures serves are children aged 0-17. One fourth of those we serve are babies and toddlers under the age of 5. HOMELESS SERVICES: At the Midway and San Leandro Shelters, women and children receive lodging, meals, and case management. Our housing resource centers and street outreach services assess and support Alameda County residents in need of housing and other resources (legal, medical, behavioral health, jobs, childcare, and more.) HOUSING SERVICES: Building Futures’ Housing Program is designed to help families and individuals secure and retain housing. We provide both short-term and long-term rental subsidies and tailored wraparound services. Building Futures also provides a 52-unit housing site with support services for people with deep needs. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SERVICES: In addition to Sister Me Home safe house, the agency’s domestic violence services include community outreach and education, counseling, referrals, housing services, and a 24-hour crisis line.
