MID PUGET SOUND FISHERIES ENHANCEMENT GROUP

Mission Statement

Mid Puget Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is a nonprofit organization that works with communities to restore local stream and near-shore habitat, so salmon can thrive.

About This Cause

Mid Sound Fisheries Enhancement Group is dedicated to helping landowners and communities protect their local fish. For instance, we help property owners remove blockages that keep fish from getting upstream – such as by replacing under-sized pipes carrying the stream through a road. We also work with landowners and community groups to plant native trees and shrubs alongside streams. These plants cool the water, filter out pollutants, reduce erosion, and provide food and cover for fish. Since 1991, we have worked to restore streams and beaches in 3 watersheds in central Puget Sound: The Green/Duwamish, Cedar/Lake Washington/Sammamish and East Kitsap watersheds. As one of 14 Regional Fisheries Enhancement Groups in Washington State, we are part of a coordinated effort to restore fish habitat in the state.
