Mission Statement
South of Market Child Care, Inc. (SOMACC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing quality early childhood education programs and comprehensive family support services in a safe and nurturing environment for families in San Francisco’s South of Market neighborhood and across the city.
About This Cause
Since 1970, SOMACC has been a cornerstone of the community, dedicated to serving primarily low-income, recent immigrant, homeless, and at-risk populations. SOMACC's main facility, the Yerba Buena Gardens Child Development Center (YBG CDC) on Folsom Street, opened in 1998. In 1999, we established the South of Market Family Resource Center (SOMA FRC) at the same location to expand our capacity to address family health and well-being. The Transbay Child Development Center (TB CDC) officially opened in December 2019, enabling our agency to reach more families and children in the community by broadening our early care, education, and family support services. What began as a small program for 30 preschoolers has grown into a major early childhood education institution and family support program. Today, we serve nearly 125 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers across our two child development centers each year, as well as more than 500 unduplicated families through our family resource center.
