Mission Statement
Friends of the Animals (FOTAS) is a non-profit organization that was formed in 1990 to support the animals of Southern Oregon seeking new, permanent, loving homes. Our mission is to increase pet adoption, improve the quality of life for County Shelter animals, rescue and foster in our volunteers' homes, promote spay and neuter, and participate in outreach and educational activities regarding responsible pet guardianship and animal welfare.
About This Cause
Friends of the Animals (FOTAS) has more than 150 volunteers that work in concert with the Jackson County Animal Shelter's programs, and foster cats, kittens, dogs and puppies surrendered or transferred to FOTAS in our homes. Our volunteers walk, socialize, train and cuddle dogs; socialize and cuddle cats and kittens; foster young and stressed animals; work with other Oregon animal welfare organizations; act as Adoption Counselors to ensure a good "match" between the animal and its adopter; reach out into the community to promote responsible pet ownership; and raise funds to enable all of these to happen in an economic and sustainable way. In addition, we support other small rescue organizations with grants to encourage spay/neuter before adoption. We also provide foster volunteers, if other organizations need the support. In 2025, we opened the Friends of the Animals Community Spay & Neuter Clinic to provide affordable, accessible spay and neuter services to prevent unplanned litters and reduce the homeless animal population in the Rogue Valley, Oregon.
