SABIN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION

Mission Statement

The mission of Sabin CDC is to sustain the livability of the culturally diverse Inner North / Northeast Portland neighborhoods by assuring the availability of long term affordable housing for its low and moderate income residents, encouraging community partnerships for local economic development, and providing community and educational programs for all ages and abilities.

About This Cause

Sabin's vision is for all neighborhood residents to have access to resources and to enjoy the support of neighbors without divisive effects of gentrification that have had a disparate impact on communities of color. Sabin CDC strives to connect old and new neighbors, to act as a community liaison, and to provide a forum for discussion of ongoing social economic changes and to foster a more inclusive community. Sabin CDC was formed in 1991 when a group of concerned neighbors came together to develop a vision and strategies for creating and maintaining socially just, economically viable, and diverse neighborhoods. Sabin's strategies for implementing this vision include the management of its 116 affordable housing units and community programs for seniors and youth. These technology and job skills programs are designed to bring neighbors together to improve skills and to connect our tenants with economic and educational opportunities. Sabin CDC is located in the Alberta Arts District in Portland, Oregon and targets its efforts in the recently gentrified Inner North/Northeast Portland neighborhoods.
