Mission Statement
The NEMS Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports the mission and goals of North East Medical Services (NEMS), a community health center that provides affordable, comprehensive, compassionate and quality health care services in a linguistically competent and culturally sensitive manner to improve the health and well-being of our community.
About This Cause
North East Medical Services (NEMS) is one of the largest community health centers in the United States targeting the medically underserved Asian population. Based in San Francisco, the non-profit community health center offers comprehensive health care services to a variety of patients, a majority of whom are uninsured or low-income. NEMS offers linguistically-competent and culturally-sensitive health care services in many languages and dialects, including Cantonese, Mandarin, Toishan, Vietnamese, Burmese, Korean, Spanish, and Hindi. NEMS operates 17 clinics and service delivery sites throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, with the main clinic located at 1520 Stockton Street in Chinatown/North Beach; seven additional clinics in San Francisco's Chinatown, Portola, Visitacion Valley, Richmond districts and Sunset districts; as well as satellite sites in Daly City and San Jose. NEMS has over 140 health care providers who offer a range of medical specialties, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Family Practice, Obstetrics/Gynecology, Dentistry, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Cardiology, Radiology, and so much more. In addition, ancillary services such as acupuncture, chiropractic, physical therapy, mental health, podiatry, nutrition, pharmacy, laboratory and social services strengthen the quality of care that patients receive. North East Medical Services (NEMS) is a licensed community clinic organization, Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. § 254b, and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. §§ 233(g)-(n). In 2021, NEMS also launched our own Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly or NEMS PACE Program and Center, serving seniors living in San Francisco. PACE is a nationally recognized model of care for older adults with chronic health needs. At NEMS PACE, we cover a wide range of health and community-based services that are customized just for participants. Our goal is to help seniors to continue living safely in their homes.
