About This Cause

The Healthcare Charities, Inc. (the Organization) mission is to support the improvement of international health care delivery systems and community service projects. In this connection, it adopted the Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences and Research Centre (AIMS), a primary and tertiary care hospital in Kerala, India. AIMS was inaugurated on May 17, 1998 with the mission of providing outstanding and affordable medical care in a patient-oriented environment, with a spirit of compassion for all, regardless of race, caste, religion, or economic condition. To the fullest extent possible, AIMS provides charitable care for those in need. AIMS is a 3,330,000 square foot, 6-wing medical facility situated on a 125-acre campus. In September 2002, the AIMS Medical College was inaugurated and accepted its first 100 students. To accommodate the college and further meet the medical needs of the community, an additional 500 beds were added bringing the total count to a 1,450 bed capacity. Subsequently, schools of nursing, dentistry and pharmacy were also added to the hospital’s campus. AIMS has a daily outpatient volume of about 3,000 and an inpatient bed-occupancy rate of ninety-five percent. The Organization’s support of AIMS is primarily through grants of medical equipment, parts and supplies. Following the Indian Ocean tsunami in 2004, Healthcare Charities, Inc. built 97 homes in Sri Lanka for victims who were rendered homeless by that tsunami. Following the 2010 Haiti earthquake, Healthcare Charities, Inc. commenced providing scholarships for 30 primary and secondary level school students, in Port au Prince. With the intent of placing additional emphasis on community service projects of an educational nature, effective April 1, 2013, the organization commenced operation of the GreenFriends Farm (the “Farm”). The Farm holds workshops and educational camps featuring leading scientists and experts in the fields of sustainable gardening and farming, tree planting, water conservation, permaculture and bee keeping.
