Mission Statement
We are coaches, kids, teachers, parents and grown-ups who believe in the power of play to make kids, schools and communities stronger. We create a place for every kid on the playground -- a place where every kid belongs, contributes and is part of the game.
About This Cause
Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive through active play and meaningful connection. Today's children face unprecedented challenges - from limited access to safe play spaces to increased screen time that reduces active social interaction. These barriers particularly affect children in under-resourced communities and communities of color. Playworks transforms school playgrounds into vibrant learning spaces where children develop essential life skills. Our evidence-based programs create lasting change by training school staff, developing student leaders, and building sustainable partnerships with schools and youth organizations. The impact is clear. Our programs increase physical activity, reduce bullying, build social-emotional skills, and improve school climate. In FYE 2023, we supported 638,008 students across 1,413 schools nationwide, with nearly 60% eligible for free/reduced lunch. Studies show our approach works: **Up to 43% more time in vigorous physical activity **43% reduction in bullying behaviors **Enhanced leadership skills through 7,000 Junior Coaches annually **Stronger sense of belonging reported by teachers By 2028, we aim to reach 2 million children through expanded digital resources, district partnerships, and strategic collaborations.
