Mission Statement
Founded in 1997, CALICO brings together law enforcement officers, child welfare workers, prosecutors and other professionals to respond sensitively and effectively to allegations of child abuse, while skilled mental-health clinicians provide support to caregivers. Each year, CALICO serves 650-700 abused toddlers, children and youth, as well as adult victims with developmental disabilities.
About This Cause
CALICO is the only child advocacy center in Alameda County, California. CALICO Services - Forensic Interviewing: Trained interviewers ask neutral, fact-finding questions of child and adult victims to obtain accurate accounts of abuse. CALICO follows a national model that is appropriate for all ages and developmental levels and causes the least trauma to victims. - Family Support: Skilled mental-health clinicians meet with caregivers to provide on-site and follow-up support, information, and referrals to legal, medical, and therapeutic services and resources . - Multi-Disciplinary Coordination: CALICO facilitates a collaborative team of 29 agencies that shares information, observes interviews and determines the best methods to ensure safety and healing for children and their families. - Training: CALICO staff conduct dozens of trainings throughout the year for professionals working in areas such as law enforcement, child welfare and prosecution on topics related to child abuse. - Community Engagement: CALICO staff regularly speak to community members to raise awareness about abuse, strategies to prevent it, and services available to victims.
