Mission Statement
AAR's mission is to work towards ending pet overpopulation that results in the euthanasia of unwanted cats and dogs. We do this by providing a rescue and adoption center, by emphasizing the importance of spaying and neutering and by educating on humane animal ownership. AAR is committed to the emotional, physical, and behavioral well being of each animal in our care.
About This Cause
AAR is managed and maintained by an all-volunteer staff. Because AAR’s policy is to treat the animals in our care as we would our own pets (we never euthanize a healthy, treatable, re-habilitatable, manageable animal), volunteers are dedicated and long-term. Each day approximately 35 volunteers (pre-teens to seniors) care for the animals, oversee adoptions, and staff the front office and clinic. Additionally, volunteers chair many fundraising events and participate in civic events. The shelter's 4 acre campus includes a 10,000 sq ft Dog Barn that houses up to 50 dogs and puppies, a 3500 sq ft house that has the Cattery (home for up-to 40 cats), lobby, offices, and animal intake. We have outdoor dog pens for when kennels are being cleaned, and large dog exercise areas. We lease out our clinic space to Texas Litter Control who provides affordable spay/neuter and wellness to the public. AAR also has a Foster Care Program that allows AAR to help animals that are not yet suitable for being at the shelter, or for which there is not yet room at the shelter. We want every animal brought to us to have a chance for a long and happy life. Because of our limited resources and personnel, we are not able to care for as many sick, injured and very young but otherwise adoptable animals as we would like to. Foster care will allow some of the young ones to grow and the sick and injured to heal. The Foster Care Program brings caring individuals and needy animals together, providing special care in a home setting until the animals are ready for adoption.
