Mission Statement
The Skating Club of San Francisco, Inc., (the Club), is dedicated to the promotion of the sport of figure skating.
About This Cause
The Club is a tax-exempt, non-profit public charity per section 501(c)(3) and donations are tax-deductible under section 170 of the IRS Code. Originally incorporated as a non-profit corporation in 1937 as the Skate & Ski Club of San Francisco, its name was changed in early 1950s to The Skating Club of San Francisco, Inc. It is one of the oldest member clubs of the US Figure Skating Association (aka US Figure Skating) which is recognized by the International Skating Union (ISU) and the US & International Olympic Committees as the National Governing Body (NGB) for the sport of figure skating. Members: The Club is composed of skaters, coaches, US Figure Skating officials, family members, and anyone passionate about the sport of figure skating. Through the enthusiasm of its members, the support of facility staff, and the quality of its programs and events, the Club strives to help each member realize their potential and it continually supports the sport of figure skating through US Figure Skating and its community of skaters. Our members reflect the rich, diverse cultural backgrounds of the SF Bay Area and are united through their passion of figure skating. Whether the skater participates for recreation or is a member of one of our synchronized skating or ice theater teams, or is a contender for a National, International or Olympic title, the Club fosters an environment for each individual to excel. Volunteers: The Skating Club of San Francisco has always been and continues to be run entirely by volunteers, many of whom are US Figure Skating officials, along with active skating and family members. The Club purchases ice at its home facility, Yerba Buena Ice Skating & Bowling Centre in downtown San Francisco. Events include: test sessions, where skaters are evaluated by US Figure Skating officials for proficiency to compete in all levels of competition; the annual Skate San Francisco competition; hosting regional and sectional qualifying competitions; and, a fund raising Gala. As the Club is run by volunteers and administration expenses are minimal, all event profits from event registration fees, membership dues, and donations go to providing direct or indirect support of individual skaters and skating teams. Programs: The Club offers multiple programs for skaters of all ages, from pre-school children through adults, to develop their skating and leadership skills. The Club has and continues to support individual skaters competing in singles, pairs, and dance events, several of whom have won National titles, along with International and World medals. One of our competitors is also a 2018 Olympian and has promise to compete in the 2022 Winter Games. The Club's synchronized skating program, the Tremors, has 5 competitive level teams (approximately 75 skaters) , from preliminary level through Adult. The Club's newest program, the San Francisco Ice Theatre, currently supports 4 competitive level teams (approximately 70 skaters), who compete in National and international 'Ballet on Ice' competition. The Junior team has won 4 National titles and has been invited to 2 International competitions. Our Club has recently hosted the 2020 Pacific Coast Adult Sectional Championships and annually hosts it's Skate San Francisco technical competition where skaters can prepare for the upcoming qualifying competitions that can lead to the US National, World, and Olympic competitions.
