Mission Statement
Since 1947, San Francisco Beautiful, a non-profit 501c3 organization, has been the only organization to advocate for civic beauty, neighborhood character and accessible public art for all in San Francisco.
About This Cause
San Francisco Beautiful was started in 1947 by Friedel Klussman to save the iconic cable cars. Since then, SFB has stopped billboards, restored over 134 unique stairways, created the Muni Art Project to replace ads with the works of young, local artists, recognized neighborhood beautification achievements at the annual Beautification Awards and much, much more. We are the only organization in San Francisco that supports the unique character of our neighborhoods and advocates on behalf of the residents of the City when that character is threatened.
