Mission Statement
Connect. Advocate. Empower. Expanding opportunities for youth, youth adult and family well-being.
About This Cause
Since 1965, Youth Homes has supported current and former foster youth, young adults with complex behavioral health challenges, and under-resourced youth at risk of entering the foster care system. We serve around 200 youth and young adults annually and are committed to creating opportunities for youth to process and heal from trauma, develop self-sufficiency and confidence, build supportive networks, and create healthy, safe, and meaningful lives. Community-based services include Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), an intensive support service that helps the youth and their families or caregivers build their parenting skills, which reduces the risk of the youth being removed from their homes and placed in foster care. TBS services include initial assessment, one-on-one behavioral coaching at home or in their academic setting, ongoing evaluations, medication support, and crisis intervention. Our Intensive Care Coordinators (ICCs) ensure the youth's entire treatment team communicates with each other and works towards the same treatment goals. They provide stability - a schedule, accountability, and follow-through on promises we make to them. We also provide services to foster youth transitioning to young adults. Youth Homes community-based clinicians provide individual and family therapy and facilitate connection to psychiatry services. Our Life Skills Coaches support young adults in gaining and practicing life skills that promote wellness, interpersonal security, and independence. These wrap-around support services reduce homelessness, aid in gaining employment, and encourage ongoing academic pursuits. Our Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) is for youth under 18 years old who have experienced trauma, been removed from their family home or foster home, and have mental and behavioral needs that are too complex and not safe to remain there. Our STRTP homes provide the youth with safe therapeutic shelter and care for youth that allows them to stabilize, attend school, and begin their healing journey to transition to permanent placement. Our menu of Enrichment Services offers opportunities for our residential and community-based youth and young adults to engage in new experiences in safe settings. Enrichment activities that help them build confidence, expose them to new places in our community, and make them feel cared for and valued. This can be anything from guitar lessons to gardening, gym memberships, equine therapy, free shopping at Youth Homes Thrift Shop, a day trip to the snow, or hanging out with therapy dogs for an afternoon. We’ve had the pleasure of hosting homecoming parties and graduation celebrations. Youth Homes is nationally accredited through the Council on Accreditation (COA) and is also a member of the Children’s Home Society of America and the Association of Children’s Residential Centers, two leading national organizations in our industry.
