Mission Statement

Immanuel’s rich history as an institution for social justice has helped us become a beacon of hope in our community and beyond. We pride ourselves in our grassroots efforts and our strong sense of social responsibility. We seek to stand in the food hunger gap for our community. Through our efforts we also stand for justice for all.

About This Cause

Immanuel is addressing the immediate need that is hunger, by providing low income and homeless individuals with groceries or meals to go. For over 20 years we have operated a weekly food pantry which would regularly serve approximately 120 people a week. In light of COVID 19 we have increased our service hours from a once a week 2 hour operation to the 6 day 4 hours a day pantry we are today. As the pandemic has grown so has the need for food in our community. Currently we are serving 2000 individuals and families per week and we continue to see an increase. Our dedicated staff is responsible for everything from unloading delivery trucks, packaging boxes, making meals for those experiencing homelessness, to distributing goods to those we serve. With our efforts we hope to alleviate the stress caused by food insecurity in our neighborhood and to continue to be a reliable resource in our community during difficult and uncertain times. We are seeking to expand the food program from our mid-wilshire location to mobile sites in nearby minority and/or low income communities through partnerships. We have also helped with several direct assistance requests for rent, utility and medical bills for those struggling with making ends meet.
