Mission Statement

Eye Dog Foundation for the Blind, Inc. was established in 1952 as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Ever since that time, it has been dedicated to giving guide dogs to blind and visually impaired individuals at absolutely no cost to them. Our German shepherd dogs have been assisting blind individuals all over the country with their daily travels. The dogs provide guidance and safety, as well as loving companionship, and assist in independent living. Our focus and mission is to provide fully trained guide dogs to the blind or sight impaired individual at no cost to them. Our four acre training facility in Phoenix Arizona consists of a six bedroom dorm where the students stay for free, kennel facility for our guide dogs, puppy kennel, and walking trails for students to bond with their guide dogs. The stay, training and guide dog are all given to the student at no cost to them.

About This Cause

Students and their guide dogs, along with an experienced trainer or assistant, are navigated through the winding paths and grassy trails daily, as they develop the bond with their guide dog. The students take their guide dogs through obedience workouts several times a week, and attend lectures in the evening so that they can ask questions, and discuss the day’s progress. Students learn to care for their guide dog’s needs such as grooming and daily care. Training in a variety of environments help prepare the students for the many challenges that they will face in their everyday travels. A guide dog greatly enhances the lives of the blind and visually impaired individual through companionship, mobility, safety, stability, and a return of personal independence.
