Mission Statement
Los Angeles Master Chorale (the “Chorale”) is an independent and innovative professional vocal ensemble that shares the traditional and evolving spectrum of choral music with the widest possible audience. We advance this art through performance, community education, collaboration, commissioning, and recording. Our goal is to be the voice of Los Angeles and a model for community-engaged arts organizations nationwide. We envision a world in which choral music is a conduit for belonging, a vehicle for participation in the arts, and a means for understanding and exploring commonalities and differences.
About This Cause
The Los Angeles Master Chorale is the “the finest-by-far major chorus in America” (Los Angeles Times) and a vibrant cultural treasure. Hailed for its powerful performances, technical precision, and artistic daring, the Chorale is led by Grant Gershon, Kiki & David Gindler Artistic Director; Associate Artistic Director Jenny Wong; Swan Family Artist-in-Residence Reena Esmail; and Interim President & CEO Terry Knowles. Created by legendary conductor Roger Wagner in 1964, the Chorale is a founding resident company of The Music Center and choir-in-residence at Walt Disney Concert Hall. We create and present sublime expressions of the classical tradition, hybrids with other art forms, and new works. The Chorale has been awarded three ASCAP/Chorus America Awards for Adventurous Programming as well as Chorus America’s prestigious Margaret Hillis Award for Choral Excellence and has been inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. We are extremely proud that the Chorale won Best Choral Performance with the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Mahler’s “Symphony No. 8” at the 2022 Grammy Awards. Chorister positions are highly sought after, and the fully professional choir is a diverse and vocally dynamic group. We produce a series of nine (9) concerts each season at Walt Disney Concert Hall, tour domestically and internationally, and continue to grow our digital content. Artistic choices are guided by the Chorale’s major public pledge to program at least half of each season with works from women and people of the global majority – artists historically excluded from classical music.
