Mission Statement
SSA MISSION. To provide Public Benefit Programs which inspire education and personal development through the Works of William Shakespeare relating to history, culture, literature, theatre and art in America.
About This Cause
LEGACY. The Shakespeare Society of America (SSA) a California non-profit since1968 was stage centric at the Globe Theatre/Playhouse in West Hollywood. In 2006, SSA had to relocate, packed up and began reorganization in the digital age without a stage . . . NEW LOCATION. By September 2008 the SSA relocated to Moss Landing, California in the heart of the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Here the ‘New Shakespeare Sanctuary' provides a variety of artifact displays and learning center for ongoing Public Benefit Programs. COLLECTION ASSETS. SSA assets include a rare book and reference collection (3,000+), Shakespearean museum and memorabilia collection (1,000+), visual art collection (1,000+) and theatre arts archive (10,000 + items). Assets are collectively known as the "SSA Collection". CURRENT OPERATIONS. SSA Administrators have provided public presentations at the New Shakespeare Sanctuary to well over 20,000 people, from 144 countries and territories, since 2008.
