Mission Statement

TO SAVE LIVES AND REDUCE SUFFERING FROM COLORECTAL CANCER IN ALL CALIFORNIANS

About This Cause

C4 in an all-volunteer nonprofit with approximately 25 active board members drawing from academic, public health, survivors, advocates, and private or public health care systems. We work tirelessly to promote access to the care continuum for colorectal cancer throughout California. We partner with local and regional resources/organizations to increase services provided for screening and treatment of colorectal cancer with the aim to reduce the number of patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer, reduction in the stage of diagnosis for those diagnosed with cancer, and improved access to treatment for everyone. We aim to fulfill our mission by: 1) Implementing strategies to reduce disparities in CRC screening, diagnosis and treatment among underserved populations in California; 2) Increasing capacity for colorectal cancer screening; and 3) Advocating for CRC screening programs to serve uninsured and underinsured populations. We have a community grants program that has been active since 2013 where we have distributed over $642,000 to more than 62 health care systems to help them focus their efforts on improving care delivery to patients who are under-insured or uninsured. We also provide expertise, both medical and public health, at the state and national level on issues throughout the care delivery process. We partner with other organizations that have a shared focus on colorectal cancer to optimize our resources and to help our stakeholders employ evidence based interventions and care delivery to vulnerable populations. Donated funds go towards our collaborative community efforts to improve access to care throughout the state. Recent Policy Updates: Working with state and national partners throughout 2021 has enabled us to accomplish some major milestones: 1) to improve access to colorectal cancer screening resources for all, 2) eliminate surprise billing for medically-mandated follow up colonoscopies, and 3) addition of quality measures for patients covered by Medicaid so that delivery of care can be accessed for patients covered by all insurance categories, with the aim to reduce late stage diagnosis and death in patients to be in alignment with all patients covered by insurance.
