PRADER-WILLI CALIFORNIA FOUNDATION

San Diego, California, 92101 United States

Mission Statement

Since 1979 Prader-Willi California Foundation has been providing persons with Prader-Willi syndrome, their families, and the professionals who serve them with much-needed education, support, and advocacy services.

About This Cause

Prader-Willi syndrome is a rare, complex genetic disorder that causes a host of symptoms including weak muscles, intellectual impairment, short statute and autistic-like symptoms... but the hallmark symptoms of PWS are an insatiable appetite no matter how much food is eaten, and severe behavioral problems. Persons with PWS need 24/7 supervision over their food intake for the entirety of their lives or they risk premature death that results from stomach rupture or complications caused by morbid obesity. The stress on families and care providers is tremendous. There is no cure yet but there is great hope.
