Mission Statement
The Foodbank provides healthy, nutritious food to the community’s hungry residents to ensure that no individual goes hungry, not even for a single day.
About This Cause
At the Foodbank of Southern California, we strive to be a key force against hunger by providing highly nutritious food to the community’s hungry residents. We procure, transport, sanitize, repackage, refrigerate, store and distribute between 40 and 60 million pounds of food per year. We then channel the food as quickly as possible – often within hours — to hundreds of charitable organizations that re-distribute it to the most needy children, adults, seniors and families in our region. These organizations depend on the Foodbank because they are not able to independently handle the logistics of transportation, warehouse space and refrigeration. In addition to our core emergency food distribution program, we offer several programs that meet the special needs of seniors, children and families, and individuals living in isolated neighborhoods without access to fresh, nutritious food: • Brown Bag Network Program for Seniors: Through the Brown Bag Program, we customize offerings to meet the dietary needs of seniors, which helps them manage chronic health conditions, maintain their physical and mental health, and live independently as long as possible. Food is distributed at community sites that serve seniors or in-home, for seniors with mobility issues. • Mobile Pantries: We bring mobile pantry trucks directly into underserved neighborhoods, many of which have little access to nutritious food. The mobile pantries are filled with fresh produce, protein items, and specially-procured food that reflects the cultural preferences of the surrounding community. • Family Food Boxes: The Foodbank will package food boxes for families of children attending local enrichment programs, such as the Boys and Girls Club. Each box feeds a family of four for the weekend As long as there are hungry children, families and seniors in our community, the Foodbank of Southern California intends to be to major force in the fight against hunger.
