Mission Statement
Founded in 1962, the Korean American Federation of Los Angeles (KAFLA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that has been recognized as a “2024 Top 100 California Nonprofit” and “2022 California Nonprofit of the Year”. Our mission is to represent and empower the Korean American community of Los Angeles County. We aim to protect and advocate for the rights and interests of our community, foster amicable relations and cultural exchange between Korea and the United States, and promote interaction and understanding between the Korean American and neighboring multiethnic communities. Our vision is to bridge generations and organizations and to prepare the next generation of leaders of the Korean American community.

KAFLA has a strong history of demonstrated leadership, experience, and track record in serving the hard-to-reach Korean American and Los Angeles communities. KAFLA serves over 40,000 people annually through our wide range of programs and services such as: • LA Wildfire Relief & Recovery • Stop The Hate • Benefits Enrollment & Assistance • Advocacy • COVID-19 Mitigation • Vaccine Outreach & Clinic • Community Education & Outreach • Citizenship Assistance • Civic Engagement • Food Bank • Homeless Outreach • Korean Language Interpreter Program • Medicare & Medi-Cal Assistance • Multi-ethnic Coalition • Pro Bono Immigration & Labor Legal Clinic • Senior & Affordable Housing Assistance • Commemorative Events • Women’s Health Screenings • Youth Exchange Program • Voter Registration & Get Out the Vote We serve as a lifeline providing in-language and culturally competent assistance to help community members navigate and access critical economic assistance, housing and food security, health, and other essential resources. Our multilingual one-stop center supports access to the Small Business Administration, Employment Development Department, CalFresh, Medi-Cal, CalWorks, Social Security Administration Retirement Benefits, Supplemental Security Income, Emergency Rental Assistance, and Los Angeles Department of Water & Power low-income and energy conservation programs. We are the leading organization in California to assist over 70,000 monolingual/limited English-proficient Korean American and diverse community members to receive over $50 million in economic aid. KAFLA has focused its resources on providing immediate assistance to our most vulnerable, underserved community members who have been impacted by the catastrophic fires throughout our region. KAFLA has engaged in various relief and response work with our partners to help those who have been hardest hit by the fires. To date, we have: • Raised over $200,000 in donated funds for our charitable 2025 LA Wildfire Relief Fund campaign that will be redistributed directly to victims of the fires. None of the funds will be used for operating expenses; • Collected and distributed over 100,000 masks, several hundred blankets, and 1,400 pairs of new socks to the City of Los Angeles Emergency Operations Center; • Provided over 500 bags of free food to community members impacted by the Hurst Fire at our Lunar New Year Food Bank in Pacoima with the Los Angeles Council District 7 Office; and • Collaborated with the Legal Aid Foundation of LA and the Korean American Bar Association to host a town hall session and legal aid clinics to share critical information and resources to assist affected residents with rapid recovery efforts.
