Mission Statement
Friends of Marquez is a foundation established by the parents of Marquez Charter Elementary School, a public school located in Pacific Palisades, CA for the sole purpose of enhancing basic education and enriching curriculum. FOM pays for extra teachers to reduce class sizes, to provide instruction in Science, Art, Music and PE, to support a Media Lounge, and other similar offerings which are no longer supported by the district due to budget constraints.
About This Cause
Our organization’s mission statement, for your review, is as follows: In 1983, parents at Marquez organized a California non-profit corporation, Friends of Marquez, to raise money for art, music, drama, physical education, computers, a librarian, teacher’s assistants and many other extras that enhance our elementary school. Friends of Marquez is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and donations to it are tax deductible. This corporation is a nonprofit public benefit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the Nonprofit Benefit Corporation Law for charitable and public purposes. A further description of the corporation’s purposes includes: The planning, funding and/or operation of supplemental educational programs to enrich the curriculum of basic education offered to the students at a Pacific Palisades Elementary School, and the conduct of fund-raising activities for the support of such programs. This corporation is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954. Notwithstanding any other provision of these Articles, the corporation shall not carry on any other activities not permitted to be carried on (a) by a corporation exempt from federal income tax under Section 501 (c) (3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provisions of any future United States internal revenue law), or (b) by a corporation contributions to which are deductible under Section 170 (c) (2) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954 (or the corresponding provisions of any future United States internal revenue law).
