About This Cause

The Lange Foundation (a nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization) was founded in 1993 by Gillian Lange, recipient of the 1980 City of Los Angeles St. Francis of Assisi award for her rescue work with impounded animals since 1974. Lange Foundation rescues dogs, cats, and horses from various city shelters who are in danger of being euthanized. The Foundation has two locations; the Halfway Home kennel in West LA and St. Bonnie’s Sanctuary in Canyon Country. Together the locations house approximately 200 animals. The Foundation rescues many animals that need complicated procedures and treatment because they are the first to be put to sleep at the shelters. In 2015 Lange Foundation expanded their efforts by establishing a “Safety Net” program through which they have a member of their staff always on site at the overcrowded Lancaster Shelter, helping pet owners who feel they have no possible recourse other than surrendering their pets to the shelter. Lange Foundation provides medical help, training, food, supplies, and help with redemption fees. This has had a huge impact on the number of cats and dogs impounded at the already stressed Lancaster shelter. To date Lange Foundation has rescued and placed over 25,000 cats, dogs and horses that would otherwise have been destroyed in overcrowded public animal shelters. Lange and a group of dedicated staff and volunteers work endlessly to help care for the homeless animals they rescue and transition them into their forever homes.
