Mission Statement

Committed to improving the lives of transgender/gender diverse youth and children living with HIV and AIDS, we believe that every child has the right to experience the wonder of childhood. Through our programs we strive to contribute to the development of each child’s self esteem, self-awareness and self-fulfillment. While transgender/gender diverse and youth living with HIV/IADS is often isolating because of negative social stigma, The Laurel Foundation aims to eradicate this isolation through a comprehensive approach, including residential camps, mentorship, life enhancement workshops, ongoing support programs and collaborative partnerships.

About This Cause

The mission of The Laurel Foundation is to empower at-risk youth through year round educational and supportive programs to children. The Laurel Foundation’s programs strive to improve the overall mental and physical health and welfare of children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS and transgender/gender diverse youth by reshaping their actions and ultimately the communities in which they live. This is done through the creation of programs that teach them the necessary life skills to overcome the adversity of AIDS and gender dysphoria, and eliminate the social conditions that lead to many of their at-risk behaviors and economic and societal disparities. Our goal is to build a successful life path for the children and youth and create an overall healthy community amongst the youngest of those affected by HIV/AIDS and those who are transgender or gender diverse. The Laurel Foundation develops program goals and objectives in accordance with our mission statement. This allows The Laurel Foundation to provide participants with a meaningful learning experience filled with friendship and fun. Our Goals: * To improve the mental and physical health and welfare of children and youth affected by HIV and AIDS through various year round educational and support programs. * Educate children and youth on the consequences of at-risk behaviors while at the same time providing them with the knowledge to make healthy life choices. This is achieved through various educational programs throughout the year. * Help children and youth develop the skills and qualities necessary for a successful, self-sufficient life path. * Introduce balance and compassion into the lives of children and youth by impelling them into experiences that show they can rise above the adversity they face and make more of their lives than they thought possible, and learn to serve others with their strength.
