About This Cause

Our Mission Statement: Located in the heart of Pasadena, the mission of Elizabeth House is to provide shelter and family-focused support to homeless pregnant women and their children through a comprehensive program that addresses the physical, emotional, and economic needs of women and children in a nurturing atmosphere. We are the only shelter program in the greater San Gabriel area that takes in pregnant women with children. Since opening in July 1994, Elizabeth House has provided assistance to: 292 women 415 infants and children The main house can accommodate 6 women and 5 children. The women stay 2-4 months after their babies are born at which time we help them transition to independent or transitional living. Therapy and case management are provided weekly on site. The women we have had in residence in the past range in age from 18 to 42, with the average age being 24. In the last few years, a significant part of our outreach is to our alumni who have transitioned to independent living and are in need of on-going support. Our staff consists of five full-time staff and five part-time staff. We have two “scattered sites” for transitional living that can accommodate 4 women and their children. And have recently opened an Alumni Center that can house up to 3 women and their babies. At the Alumni Center we are having educational classes for our alumni consisting of Social Media, QuickBooks, Communications Class, as well as many others. About Our Program: Each resident must be involved in a minimum of 35 hours per week of employment, volunteer work or school. Each resident must participate in individual and group therapy on site each week. An average of 8 different classes, taught by volunteers that are skilled and professional in their areas of expertise, are held on site monthly. These classes are required of each resident. Some of these classes are: Childbirth & Infant care…Parenting and discipline skills…Childbirth Education… Breastfeeding…Health Education…Infant Care…Chemical Dependency…Financial Management… Career Development…Job Skills & Job Search Training…Nutrition & Exercise… Cooking…Adoption Options…
