Mission Statement
Established in 1998, the HollyRod Foundation has been championing the needs of individuals and families who are affected by Parkinsons and Autism for almost 19 years. Our organizational efforts and signature programs have touched thousands of lives by providing the gift of voice, technology, job training and other resources.
About This Cause
Founded by actress, author and philanthropist Holly Robinson Peete and husband Rodney Peete former quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles, the HollyRod Foundation is a cause that is very near and dear to their hearts. Holly's father, Matthew Robinson who played the original Gordon on Sesame Street died from Parkinsons. In 1998 Holly and Rodney's became proud parents of twins Robert Jackson (RJ) and sister Ryan. In 1998 RJ was diagnosed with autism. His twin sister Ryan was not diagnosed with autism. The HollyRod Foundation has been the lead celebrity driven voice for autism and Parkinsons for almost 19 years. Our organizational mission includes compassionate care for people living with Parkinsons, raising awareness, advocacy, and providing resources and programs for people with children who are on the spectrum. The HollyRod Foundation partners with some of the most respected autism service providers in the world including the Geneva Center for Autism, Heartsong, the Society for the Treatment of Autism, Arizona Autism United and many others. Our direct program service model includes RJ's Places which provide vocational training exclusively for people with autism. Each RJ's Place is branded and features interactive technology, resource materials and program support. Additionally family members have access to tools and resources as well. We currently have 10 RJ's Places across the country. My Brother Charlie is another HollyRod Foundation effort that provides social outings to families who have children on the spectrum. For families with children on the spectrum the opportunity to enjoy outings that other families take for granted can present challenges. We must be mindful of environments that over stimulate the senses. We have discovered that aquariums are environments that are therapeutic from an audio, visual and sensory perspective for children and adults. These events provide families with the opportunity to enjoy quality time with their families in a warm and welcoming environment that they might not otherwise experience.
