Mission Statement
JEMS is a nonprofit religious organization that was incorporated in 1951. We provide direct services to Asian American churches along the West Coast.
About This Cause
As an organization, we have two main departments. Our international programming sends individuals and families to Japan to help local churches/nonprofits in the area of community engagement. In recent years, we have sent individuals to Tohoku, the area that was devastated by the earthquake and tsunami of 3/11/11. These individuals have done everything from debris removal, emotional care to helping at micro-enterprises within the recovering communities. Our second department is our domestic programming. We have campus chapters through AACF (an arm of JEMS), with the purpose of building future leaders. While involved in AACF, they learn skills such as planning a meeting for a large group of students, small group dynamics, and relational skills to help their peers. They seek to collaborate with other community organizations in order to learn pertinent life skills, such as gaining a healthy concern for those who are less fortunate than they are. These are the two largest programs that we have at JEMS. We have other domestic programming that involves summer conferences, sporting and music events geared toward the religious non-profit sector.
