Mission Statement

Oklahoma Cowboys Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to honoring the legacy and contributions of Black cowboys and cowgirls in Oklahoma throughout history. The organization's mission revolves around three main pillars: Education: They strive to educate the public about the often-overlooked role of Black cowboys in shaping the history of the American West. This includes providing resources such as educational materials, programs, and presentations to schools, community centers, and other organizations. Preservation: The organization works to preserve the stories, artifacts, and traditions of Black cowboys and cowgirls. This may involve collecting oral histories, documenting historical sites, and advocating for the preservation of relevant cultural landmarks. Outreach: They engage in outreach efforts to raise awareness about the importance of Black cowboy history and culture. This could involve hosting events such as rodeos, cowboy experiences, and cultural festivals, as well as collaborating with other community organizations to reach a wider audience. Overall, the organization aims to ensure that the significant contributions of Black cowboys and cowgirls in Oklahoma are recognized and celebrated, and that their legacy continues to inspire future generations.

About This Cause

The Oklahoma Cowboys Foundation, established in 2022 and officially recognized as a 501(c)(3) in early 2024, is committed to preserving and promoting the legacy of Black cowboys while empowering the next generation of riders and rodeo enthusiasts. Our foundation is rooted in community service, cultural education, and providing access to unique opportunities for inner-city children through programs that combine tradition, skill-building, and mentorship. Key programs include the Youth Summer Camp, After-School Program, and Rodeo Clinic, all designed to make equestrian sports and rodeo culture accessible and affordable. These initiatives reflect our mission to inspire youth, foster discipline, and celebrate the rich history of Black cowboys in Oklahoma and beyond. We aim to ensure that every child, regardless of their background, can learn, grow, and embrace the values of hard work and resilience exemplified by cowboy culture.
