About This Cause
Seeds of Change Free Clinic is seeking funding to empower women and children, helping them achieve better health and an improved quality of life through compassionate, safe care. Our mission is to provide free medical, dental, vision, and auditory services to the residents of Seeds of Hope.Founded 25 years ago by Father Glenn O'Connor, Seeds of Hope began as a women's home to support those struggling with substance use disorder. Located on the grounds of St. Joseph’s Parish, the program helped women transition from addiction to sobriety and a successful life. Although Father Glenn has passed away, his mission lives on and continues to thrive. Over the years, we’ve created the Fr. Glenn Home, a safe, sober living community for women who have completed their initial recovery program. This space allows women to continue their journey in a supportive environment, where they can work, save money, and regain independence. One of the earliest graduates of Seeds of Hope was Marvetta Grimes. After graduating in 2000, Marvetta dedicated her life to the mission of Seeds of Hope, eventually becoming its Executive Director. Marvetta’s journey was marked by profound loss — including the loss of her children to the system during her addiction. Tragically, her son, Anthony, passed away in foster care due to neglect. Before her passing, Marvetta dreamed of creating a recovery home for women and their children, ensuring that no other woman would have to face the same hardships. Today, in partnership with Volunteers of America, we are working to bring Marvetta’s dream to life. We are building two apartment buildings for women and their families on the property adjacent to Seeds of Hope. This new complex, named the Marvetta and Anthony Grimes Family Center, will be a comprehensive sober living campus. The center will provide daycare and preschool services through St. Mary’s Early Childhood Center, along with free medical, dental, vision, and auditory care at the Seeds of Change Free Clinic. These women will either be in active recovery or have successfully completed their addiction recovery. Both apartment buildings will continue to support these women in a safe, sober and encouraging environment.
