Mission Statement
Our mission is to assist young girls in building their self confidence using art therapy and interactive journaling.
About This Cause
Project Girl Code, NFP is a 501(c) (3) non for profit whose vision is to cultivate and encourage young girls, ages 8-18, to see themselves in a more beautiful and positive way. Our mission is to assist them in building their confidence using art therapy and interactive journaling. We meet monthly to provide a safe and consistent space for them to express their feelings and emotions and to be able to share life experiences with their peers. We use art therapy, painting, scrapbooking and journaling as the outlets of expressions because it allows them to express themselves uniquely. Our monthly session topics provide a variety of resources that can be used to model positivity and aid with self-growth techniques that can be used to combat peer pressure related challenges. Each session includes activities with positive affirmations, guidance on managing emotions, opportunities to journal, as well as time for goal setting. The sessions also provide practical training exercises that can help build meaningful relationships with their peers as well as others. Annually, we host two outreach events. During the month of May, we host a toiletry drive to collect personal hygiene items. Th e main purpose of this act of servitude is to bring awareness to teenage homelessness and mental health among children. We intentionally selected this month to coincide with Children's Mental Health Day, which May 7th. Once collected, the items are packaged discreetly in colorful pencil pouches and shared with schools and after school programming centers to be used by those in need. During the month of December, we host an intergenerational cookie bake to promote healthy relationships. The second Saturday of December was chosen to honor the cookie baking legacy of the founder's grandmother, Garnell DeRamus, as well as celebrate Bake Cookies Day which is December 18th. We solicit volunteers to spend an entire day baking home-made cookies. All supplies and ingredients are provided by the foundation and this event is open to the public. Our girls serve as assistants to our guest throughout the event. Their mission and assignment for that day is to meet at least two new people and learn an interesting fact to make a connection. Both of these events are provided to the participants at no cost to them. Each year we set a goal to help more girls. Our goal this year is to help 75-100 girls with our toiletry drive. We also want our annual cookie bake to make more connections. This year, we want to make at least 75-100 connections between our girls and the participants. All donations are used to purchase the supplies and snacks provided at each event.
