Mission Statement
The mission of North County Recreation District is to promote the educational, social, and physical well-being of the entire north county community by offering activities for all ages and abilities in an inviting environment.
About This Cause
North County Recreation District offers a comprehensive array of programs and services to north Tillamook County residents as well as visitors. We are located in a beautiful and historic 1920 building in Nehalem. Our swimming pool, built in 1930, is the oldest public pool on the west coast. Originally built by the local school district, it has served to teach all local elementary school students to swim for 89 years. Because of its age we are actively raising funds to build a replacement pool. The pool also offers many classes and activities for adults, youth, and seniors including lap swim, family swim, aqua-therapy, and others. Our Fitness Center features three large rooms filled with modern fitness equipment. It also hosts many different kinds of classes such as yoga, Tai Chi, Pi-flow, Taekwon-do, group strength for seniors, Zumba, AM Bootcamp, Core Pilates, and stretch and balance. Our Youth Center offers after-school programs, summer programs, summer camps, and summer field trips. It also includes a very active Youth Sports program. The Activities for Adults department hosts a wide variety of classes and activities including trips to arts and cultural activities, social events, and deep sea fishing. We have a number of large meeting rooms available for rent as part of our Community Center. These include a large kitchen, a gallery, the Riverview Room, the Fireside Room, the Schoolhouse Room, and the A.E. Doyle Room. Larger events can be held in our gym, and special events can also be booked for our 192 seat Performing Arts Center. The PAC is beautifully remodeled and features a state-of-the-art sound system, professional lighting, and digital projection system and screen. Regional, national, and international artists perform in our ongoing concert series. The PAC is also home base for Riverbend Players theatrical group which puts on a number of productions each year. Our Rex Champ ballfield is located about a mile away towards Manzanita and features an adult coed softball league as well as a variety of youth sports activities. The field can be reserved for private use. We also have a covered skatepark and an obstacle course adjacent to the building. Our building also serves as home for the privately operated New Discoveries Pre-School.
