Mission Statement
The San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s Mission is to provide enriching recreational activities, maintain beautiful parks and preserve the environment for the well-being of everyone in our diverse community.
About This Cause
Keep San Francisco’s recreation programs accessible for everyone in our diverse community. Promote active living and well-being for San Francisco’s diverse and growing community. Help keep today’s parks safe, clean, and fun and promote our parks’ historic and cultural heritage. Thank you for your interest in supporting San Francisco’s parks and recreation system. General contributions to the Recreation and Parks Gift Fund are used to support the Department’s Edwin M. Lee Scholarship Program, which ensures that all San Franciscans have access to enriching recreational programs, regardless of ability to pay. In 2014 the Department awarded more than 7,000 scholarships allowing city residents access to everything from after-school and senior programs to summer camps, swimming lessons, dance classes and team sports. Scholarships are especially important for the Department’s after-school and summer camp programs for kids, and have helped provide thousands of children with safe, stimulating places to try new things during out-of-school hours. Scholarships ensure that all San Franciscans can get out and play! The Recreation and Park Department is privileged to be entrusted with the care of many of San Francisco’s special public spaces. On behalf of all San Franciscans, the Department stewards: 4,113 acres of recreational and open space 220 neighborhood parks 82 recreation centers and clubhouses If you’d like to support a specific park, project, or facility, or would like more information, please contact the Recreation and Park Department’s Partnerships Division at recparkpartnerships@sfgov.org.
